Grace Campbell's profile

Folies Costume Film

I have designed and made two Folies inspired costumes for a high end  London cabaret performer.  The first costume I designed and made is based on the 1890’s era of Folies Bergere a theatrical cabaret music hall and entertainment venue in Paris and the second costume is based on the 1920’s era and also influenced by the Ziegfeld Follies in New York. This period from the 1890’s to the 1920’s was the heyday of the Folies Bergere and wanted to highlight this style of lavish costumes in today’s cabaret scene. Both costumes are based around the character the Greek Goddess Artemis also known as the Roman Goddess Diana creating a juxtaposition between the risqué Folies performers and the virgin, man-hating huntress Artemis.

In addition to photographing my costumes I also collaborated with film makers to make a short film clip to highlight my costumes movement and to show how the costumes moves with the body during performing.
